Welcome and Happy New Year
President's Message, January 2020
We're looking forward to a productive year for AWRA in 2020 and hope you will join us in making it a successful one for all our members. We’ll kick off our conference schedule with the 2020 Spring Geospatial Water Technology Conference: Complex Systems in Austin, TX March 23-26 and finish with our Annual Water Resources Conference in Orlando, FL November 9-12. Planning committees for both conferences are hard at work to bring you robust conference experiences. If you haven’t yet been to one of our conferences, I hope you’ll do so this year. They are a terrific way to learn cutting edge information from colleagues in multiple disciplines during technical and policy sessions, and network during breaks and other conference activities. We hope everyone will join us at one or both conferences in 2020.
With so many important water issues facing communities throughout the country, as well as globally, now is as important time as ever to join fellow water resource professionals in addressing those issues. From droughts, floods, hurricanes and coastal flooding to drinking water, water supply, hydropower, fisheries, wildlife and other ecological impacts, AWRA members cover the spectrum of water resources expertise. AWRA provides multiple opportunities for you to share your work and learn from others through publishing in Water Resources IMPACT and/or the Journal of the American Water Resources Association (JAWRA), hosting or listening to one of our webinars, presenting or simply attending one of our conferences, and joining one of our State Sections.
I for one am grateful for the professional opportunities and connections to key experts AWRA has provided me throughout my career. I hope you’ll “step up” this year and join us in addressing contemporary water resource challenges and connecting with fellow professionals.
