Professor Susan Lea Smith teaches environmental, energy, & natural resources law at Willamette University, directing the law school’s Certificate Program in Sustainability. Her current research focuses on water justice ethics, governance, and law. She serves with the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law and the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law. She serves as advisor to the Secretary-General of the World Council of Churches and advocates water justice on behalf of the WCC, Creation Justice Ministries, and United Church of Christ. Professor Smith’s litigation experience includes several decades representing environmental and community groups, federal agencies, the State of Oregon, and mining and oil & gas interests. She holds a BA from Reed College, an M. Pub. Pol. from the Kennedy School at Harvard University, and a JD from Harvard Law School.
